Kinísi Therapy

We believe people need to move a little to feel a lot better.

We focus on deep healing through different mindfulness practices and movement modalities. They can range from meditation to rehabilitation and dance, but really it is about finding what moves you.

Movement Sanctuary

Our Home

A mindfulness gym, a space curated for people living in the busy city, to take time to pause and reflect on their journey through life. A home for the future, working towards a sustainable and off-grid lifestyle, powered by the people for the people.

Movement Sanctuary was born through a need for an alternative for movement training spaces. Many yoga studios lacked the performance training found in gyms, and gyms lacked the mindfulness found in yoga studios.

Movement Sanctuary has a deep connection to Budokon, a Mixed Movement Arts, founded by Cameron Shayne. Cameron Shayne, nicknamed "the Guru Killer" create a mixed movement arts system to incorporate Jui Jitsu, stand-up fighting, yoga, mobility, and calisthenics. Creating a beautiful foundation for the mind-body connection.

While I trained in Miami, I helped renovate and move the studio Budokon studio. It inspired me inspired to create something similar in South Africa.

The main studio space is covered in 40mm Professional Grade Jiu Jitsu mats, with exposed laminate beams to support acrobatic rigs and infrared heating (future hot yoga). The studio is built for its members to feel the ultimate luxury whilst cherishing the hard work required to be a better mover physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The studio has been built with the future in mind, looking to home a café supplied by the organic garden and media network for music and entertainment. A building to help blend home, work and play.

Life is about experiences, why not hear from others

About 32 years ago, in what seems like another life, I was hit in the leg by a ricochet bullet during a bank robbery. Although this sounds dramatic, movie-worthy almost, I made a full recovery (or so I thought) and was able to live out my twenties and thirties like any other person. However as time passed, I found myself in constant discomfort - something was wrong with my knee.

A visit to the doctor established that some gunpowder residue was leftover and it had caused the cartilage and bone in my knee to disintegrate. They would be able to buy me some time with cartilage replacements but eventually I would need a full knee replacement in my 50s.

I started working with Lee in 2019, a year before my knee replacement was scheduled, as I was in near constant pain and my mobility was severely limited. He showed me small, simple exercises that I could do everyday to strengthen the muscles around my joints. After just a few weeks, I could feel the difference in my mobility and reduction in the inflammation. It was an obvious improvement and then an even more obvious decision to work with Lee after my replacement operation. In addition to working with a physiotherapist, my sessions with Lee dramatically sped up the rate of my recovery.

Although I am now a bionic woman with a titanium knee, I am back at the gym, running around after my Jack Russels and enjoying my life. At a physical level, I feel stronger, more energized and willing to push myself further. I know my practice will be even more valuable as I get older with balance and bone and muscle strength being more important than ever.

Lee is a wonderfully insightful instructor and is able to challenge you to move forward while still making you feel comfortable and nurtured. I am thankful and amazed at how far I have come on my personal journey with him as a guide.
